Some operations inside a vacuum system can cause harm or damage to a viewport. For example, evaporation of metals in the UHV system can cause the viewport surface to become quickly coated, resulting in a mirror reflective surface. Removal and cleaning of the viewport will then be necessary before reusing it.
To overcome these problems, we offer a range of viewport shutters, both Full-Coverage Swing Type and Venetian Blind Type (the latter being especially useful where a low profile when opened is preferable).
